Ana Khatun is a village in Esperan Rural district, in the Central District of Tabriz County, East Azerbaijan Province, in Iran. It is about 332 miles north west of Teheran, and its entire population is merely 2052, belonging to just 527 families. There can be no doubt that it is name of a Mongol Queen, and literally means a lady who is in position sky high. The air going up to the sky in importance. More probably the village is named after this important lady, who must have founded this place long ago.

Chughtai Museum has in its archives a manuscript of Ana Khatun from Tabriz areawith an introduction in verse and three risalahs written for her three sons, namely Saifuddin Abdul Wahab, Muhammed Qasim and Abdul Salam. She styles herself as Ana Shah Khatun, which clearly shows a Royal status. We know that the Mongols settled in Tabriz and Azarbaijan area and styled themselves as Al-Khanids. More on them later.
