The contact between Sultan Iltutmish and the Caliph of Islam was in 1226-1229 AD. Awfi and Juzjani as well as others have written about same. The grandest reception possible was given to Al Mustansar Billa who was Caliph of that time. Besides the unforgettable welcome given to the Caliph, the emphasis on the JAMIA MASJID AJMERE, called the ‘Dhai Din ka Jhnopara’. This grandest of mosques was constructed by Sultan Iltutmish in two and a half days, a feat considered impossible with the size and magnitude of the mosque. But those people did it and it is called the same to this day. But the most amazing part is that a SEVENTH ARCHED FRONT was made in honor of the Caliph of Islam Al-Mustansar Billa, and THE SAID CALIPH IS REPUTED TO HAVE SAID HIS PRAYERS IN THE MOSQUE IN 1229 AD. IT WAS A BLESSINGS ETERNAL FOR INDO-PAKISTANI REGION as the world leader of Islam was in this region and hosted by the Sultan, and set the state for the amalgamation of Muslim efforts all over the world. It seemed the UMMA was getting together at that time.
The forgotten incident is recorded here and there and comes in some modern texts too.
