The Earth spills out their history

When David (Hazrat Daud) killed Goliath (Jaloot), very few of these giants were left. Some think of them as off shoots of Cro-Magnons, others think of them as a separate specie. A last lot of them were in the Shrine of Astarte at Lebanon, when King Constanine routed them out and they fled to far off places. The official history of Shah Jahan, the Shahjahannama notes their presence in the hills of Afghanistan. Some came to Punjab, and finding a perfect hill lock near the river Ravi, settled the place forever. A probable date is in the 6th century AD, but many carried Muslim names after that. One carried the name of LA WAI. These were the first Nau-guzzas of Lahore.

A detailed account is available in my book LANGA THE NAU GUZZA OF LAHORE, and we would be happy to send a copy to anybody interested in the subject. Modern writers feel that the various graves of Nau guzzas are all fakes but we have ancient accounts of them in travelogues, including ancient photographs, which show the structures being made of Sultanate bricks. Some objects recovered from their graves are also known. Few brave researchers have also tried digging their graves. Archaeologists have also analyzed the graves. Official reports exist on them.

The tallest man on Earth was about Nine feet tall. Goliath is remembered as being ten feet tall. Obviously a human structure of Nine Yards cannot exist in any scientific way. The reason is that the GUZZ we think of as a yard was a different measurement in those times and varied from area to area as well as object to object. We would think of them as under ten feet in height. That here in he Punjab they were worshipped as gods cannot be denied and they did mate with local women, and produced children. A travel account has described the monstrosity of their genitals, and the Hindu women here, were obviously worshippers of lingams and considered them mighty gods. That is why they were left alone and put into graves as worshipping of so called Saints.

Suffice to us that figurines were made of them and we find their figurines from about 10 to 30 feet under the Earth, which means that they were worshipped for at least a thousand years. We can enjoy them fully. Again Western scholars are so bigoted that I have sent booklets as well as references to some famous ones and they have not even bothered to reply, for what we find is nothing, what they find is infinitely valuable. Bigots!

Where has he gone now? His art and all that.

Quaid-e-Azam had succeeded in making the dream of a revolutionary Islamic State come true. Pakistan was finally there. But there and then, where those who loved Pakistan, started giving it their best, the other part, the opposition, started their best to undo Pakistan. This is a strange phenomena. In Art a similar wave started, when Governor General Ghulam Muhammed, who knew nothing about Art, started raving about Art and the need for birth of the NEWER MODERN SCHOOL. Obviously that meant a modern artist would be created and a number of them were already on the scene to undo the Ideology of Pakistan. S.M. Sultan was in more ways than one such an artist. Completely bohemian, with wild man’s look, he fretted about art in his own way.

None other than Fatima Jinnah herself was goaded to take the challenge of promoting this man. Good, no issue! But how good he really was? Admired as an intellectual for his rejection of most facets of modern life, still he was termed as a Modern Artist. It is unfortunate that art history is full of dustbins of various artists. The very need to pretend to be something borders on hypocrisy of highest order. S. Amjad Ali paid his YMCA bills at Lahore, otherwise the Manager was seriously considering action against Sultan for nonpayment of stay dues. But that was the definition of being modern. Totally irresponsible! The Bengali figures seen in his art are even as a form of realism, totally unlike Bengal itself. Nothing new, nothing extraordinary. Nor classic, nor avant garde. In literal terms, ordinary. Compare him with Zainul Abedeen, a friend of my father, who I had the pleasure of meeting myself in Dacca. He looked as an artist and painted masterpieces, and he will be respected forever in any world.

Bengal fascinated M.A. Rahman Chughtai too. We see many Bengali subjects in his art and here is Bengali rendition which is forever. He had a huge following in East Pakistan. We have included some of these for people to enjoy. We have nothing against S.M. Sultan but in a desire to jump start their career, they resorted to gimmickry, which we do not like in any way. Surely Sultan had talent, but in his desire to be avant garde, he discarded it, and became faceless in the quest of time itself.

Ifftikhar Dadi writes: “Sadequain also befriended the East Pakistani artist S. M. Sultan (1923-94), who had arrived in Karachi in 1951, and the two artists spent much time together. Sultan, who had earlier attended the Calcutta School of Art with the help of Hasan Shahid Suhrawardy, an art critic and member of the school’s governing body, led a singular nonconformist life, eventually settling in a village in East Pakistan and adopting the ways of a Shivite ascetic. Sultan’s nonconformist life has been a subject of fascination on the part of many Bangladeshi intellectuals, and it undoubtedly influenced Sadequain’s fashioning of his own social singularity.” The way of life becomes more important than the work itself.

Pakistani Art history is full of dustbin of Art Gimmickry. Touted as revolutions, the movements died their down death soon later. In the quest of permanence, only the extraordinary is given life in the quest of time. As John Keats said, “A thing of beauty is a joy for ever: Its loveliness increases; it will never pass into nothingness.”

Unimaginable together.

I think there are hardly any situations in Pakistan where groups can be seen together. Not one place where everybody can be represented. The Mullahs cannot be at one place. The Writers cannot do the same. The politicians if ever brought together swing their head in other directions. The divided Art Camp is no different. Groups which are engendered by foreign lobbies at one place, others have no clout. Few are people who exist on their own professional level. That is a rarity in Pakistan.

It was the generosity of M.A. Rahman Chughtai’s character that he never imposed himself on others. He never belittled or criticized other painters. He knew what would remain. And what would die their natural death. The Americans invited him, the Russians invited him, but he remained true to his own vision. His love for the Pakistan Idea supreme and he did not fall in the chaos of Liaquat Ali Khan decision making. Like the Quaid e Azam, he remained true to Pakistan.

We came across a rare photograph of a group of Pakistani Painters in 1952. All different types are represented here and where some are looking glum, he seems happy and relaxed. We wanted to share this photograph with people. Did you ever thought you would see Shakir Ali and M.A. Rahman Chughtai standing together. Lobbies fed up of being repeatedly exposed

Zaid Hamid on Umra quest. A think tank as he calls himself and he led himself into a well conceived trap from lobbies which are hidden from view. Who could have done that? Is it merely a whimsical step by the host country. Or were they asked by others to do it. It is shameless but also reckless. Consequences of same that cannot be understood at this time.

If he is sent scot free, there would be consequences. If he is flogged to death, there would be consequences. But I do not think his destiny is to die a meaningless death. Allah has reserved him for more important work. He gets along with no one, yes, simply for his version of truth stops him from calling anything else as anything more than his belief. Truth is always self evident.

Once upon a time HELEN got kidnapped, and led to a war, unimaginable in horror. To his day Helen of Troy makes us talk of TROJANS. The dummy wooden horse full of soldiers as a ruse to enter the city. There are TROJANS here in Pakistan. Many Indian sites are rejoicing in this capture. Hold yourself. He is a warrior living, he will be a hundred times more warrior in death. So fear him! Fear the fate of his red cap!

LINKS OF ARTIST M.A. RAHMAN CHUGHTAI WITH FOUNDER OF NATION

Chughtai Museum has already documented the links of artist M.A. Rahman Chughtai with Quaid e Azam. Letters from Liaquat Ali Khan in 1946 refer to requests for designs from the Quaid e Azam himself. Approval of the first Postage Stamp of Pakistan by Quaid himself. The painting of General Bairam Khan hanging in the residence of the Governor General in Karachi. More are being found everyday.

We present a very interesting view of a Chughtai’s etching at Ziarat’s residency. It means that even in his last days the Quaid had excess to this etching and was viewing it, to relax him in his troubled times. It is the first version of Mughal Princess, which was later converted into an aquatint. Media has termed it as Anarkalli, in the theme of the Mughals. It was either presented by the artist Chughtai, when he met the Quaid in Lahore, at the reception hosted by a famous Pakistani doctor. It is told that a 16mm film existed of the meeting but stands lost with time. Or alternatively, it was the work of Colonel Majeed Malik of the Information Department, who before partition was working for the MI5 of Britain. He was one of the best friend of Chughtai and also Editor of one of his Magazine Annuals, namely KARAVAN, LAHORE. So much history is there.

To this day when international events are being held in Pakistan, we see the LOGOS of Radio Pakistan and Pakistan Television representing the artist Chughtai in his design roles for the country. The quest of Chughtai to make Pakistan a country with strong aesthetics, to put its stamp in the world.

I always take care in saying things about Lahore

A lot is written about Lahore and I welcome that. We are Lahoris too and stress on Lahore makes us very happy. Some years back nobody even touched Lahore as a subject. We can all make mistakes and that it normal. But when we engender fALSEHOOD by unnecessary remarks, one should avoid that.

Lahore is a Muslim City and people resent this fact very much. The efforts of many to find Hindu ruins in Lahore have resulted in zero results. At the most we find Mandirs of Lahore which are about 19th century or at the most 18th century, nothing more. And then the British started telling us stories abut Loh and Kasu, sons of Ram. First mentioned around 1692, it has never been substantiated that the same is about this Lahore. Some placed that Lahore near Icchra, others dispute that. Many even say that Lahore was somewhere near Peshawer itself. I have discussed this extensively at many places. Suffice to say that this city is MAHMUDABAD, the city founded by Sultan Mahmud Ali Ghaznavi. It is about a 1000 years old.

The city indeed has many levels, and many levels have given many artifacts. Basically the artifacts are only related to about 30 feet in depth. it is called the SINKING CITY. The streets are not coming up, the level of Lahore is going down. And this going down is not related to the Lahore City only. Just observe the houses in Model Town, Garden Town and Gulberg. The level of the houses are going down as the streets are coming up. To talk about Afghans digging for gold, raising the city’s level is for lack of proper word merely HOGWASH. The change of levels is a geological issue of time and more can be said about that.

The most remarkable statement comes from a long known friend of mine, who says that he picked up some pottery from 10 to 12 feet and had it tested at Cambridge University by getting the earthenware CARBON DATED and found the same to be 3500 years old. Some mistake has been made. This is not a scientific statement in any way. Carbon dating is only used for ORGANIC MATERIAL and for pottery thermo-nuclience is required to get even an approximate date. A hundred and one research projects has proved that 30 years mean a 1000 years. A lot of material is being collected from Lahore, and Islamic objects as well as extensive coin hordes, have been found at even 30 to 35 feet in Lahore. As Islam is merely 1400 years old and only 1200 years in the region, so Islamic subjects at 30 feet mean just that, a mere 1000 years.

WHERE DOES THIS INSPIRATION COME FROM?

One look at the pouring of such people, leave any sane person with even a small piece of mind, sure that the duality of character is rampant in the European Pets of our century. Of course this is nothing new, but the so called love and respect given to these people, make one wonder about the objectivity of humankind itself? One set of principles for one self, another set of principles for others.

Of course everybody is entitled to write whatever they like, if they believe in same. But can it be believed that this being part of the belief of these people. Okay, let us accept they hate Islam. So what? Many people do. We do not care for such out pouring. But when undue importance is given to very trivial things, not even worthy of being news, then one understands, the other side of bigotry itself. Creation of Islamo phobia is the agenda of certain lobbies. Dear World, we are normal people with normal aspirations. To conquer the world is not our agenda, it never was. It was the compassion, the education, the civilization of Islam which overturned the World Order, not us. And even these things are becoming alien to us. So fear not us. Fear your OWN GREED, YOUR OWN DESIRE TO CONQUER THE WORLD, TO INTRODUCE SATANISM IN THE WORLD. To degrade man in all way, and to destroy his self respect, so as to eliminate the chances of a better HOMO SAPIENS emerging in the world. Stop cuddling your pets, you look ridiculous doing same.

Om 11th March, 2014, William Holland requested if we had more information on James Langley US Ambassador to Pakistan. Of course his interesting history is on the net itself as the man who wrote his own epitaph. More on that later.

James Langley was the Ambassador who invited M.A. Rahman Chughtai to lecture in the USA. Recently. I came across another letter of his, in which he invited another School teacher to the USA too. That later. An old magazine volume reveald three images of him in Pakistan, so decided to share that with the world as with us too. Enjoy!

The classification s simply amazing. It includes all human labour in a classification so bizarre that it makes you laugh as well as amazement at its fullness of the human venture.

THE FIRST CHURCH IN LAHORE
MUGHALS COOPERATED WITH MISSIONARIES

No sign of it today

The zeal of the missionaries was tremendous. They desired to convert his barren land into Christiandom. Emperor Akbar was responsive to all and allowed the opening of a Chapel in Lahore in 1595. Akbar also sent most expensive adornments for the chapel. He also sent Christian paintings done by the Mughal Masters. It was in the house of the Father but more the shape of the Agra chapel. But the missionaries wanted a Church at all costs. It was Prince Saleem (Jahangeer) who helped them start the same and actually near the Palace itself. The superintendent of the new Church was FATHER PINHEIRO and it was formally inaugurated on 7th September, 1597. The Governor of Lahore was the Chief Guest. It was well established and musicians from Goa were invited to play music in Lahore, on their pianos and their well known Carols. A COURTIER Mirza Sikander Masih took interest in same. The building was considered as a beauty and a marvel of the time.

The Portuguese gave trouble to the Mughals and as a punishment the Church was closed for ten years. An old aged Venetian was in charge of the empty Church. But then Shah Jahan fell apart with the Portuguese even more and the Church was leveled to the ground. But the Christians still carried on their work in the house of the Father itself. The house was very near the Palace and the Fathers were forbidden to sleep on the roof for the Mughal Harem was near by and ladies could be spotted from the roof itself. Church activities continued within the city wall in Mohalla Talawara, a famous place of the times,.

The interesting part is that with the Church, there was also Christian cemeteries in Lahore. Definitely there was a cemetery in Lahore in 1606 and used for fireworks in the city. A cemetery existed in MOZANG Lahore, and even in 1671, there is a letter of Aurangzeb confirming the presence and allowance of this Christian cemetery in Lahore.

In 1832 there was no Church in Lahore, and a Church was opened in the Lahore Fort during Duleep Singh’s reign. And then we have the conversion of the Mausoleum of Nadira Begum (Anarkalli) into a regular Church. At the same time the Sheesh Mahal of Asif Khan was razed to the ground and a regular European Cemetery made there which exists to this day. A cross from the Mughal times in Red Stone still exist in the compound of the Cathedral Lahore, on the Mall road, Lahore. Christians and Muslims have co-existed without any issues. Foreign lobbies try their best to divide the two but without any success. Islam tolerates other ways of life.
